Is Vodafone broadband a good choice?
Our overall rating: 8 out of 10
If you owned a chunky mobile phone in the late 90s, there’s a good chances it would have been on a Vodafone network. This master of the mobile turned its sights to other avenues of communications, launching its first fixed-line domestic broadband service in 2015. It’s now one of the largest providers with over 1.6 million UK customers.
The positives
- Nationwide coverage
- Wi-Fi 7 hub (for some plans)
- Some of the fastest speeds in the UK
The negatives
- Only 24-month contracts
- Yearly price hikes
- The new fastest speeds (2Gbps)less accessible
In our full review we take a look at the pros and cons of each area in more detail: speed, full fibre review, cost, setup and customer service.
How fast is Vodafone broadband?
Vodafone offers some of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK when paired with full fibre technology. Its top-tier plans, such as Pro II and Pro 3 Broadband, can deliver symmetrical speeds (where uploads match downloads) of up to 2.2 Gbps – the ultimate in future-proof bandwidth.
Vodafone uses two main wholesale networks to deliver its broadband: Openreach and CityFibre.
- Openreach covers the majority of UK premises and gives Vodafone a wide reach, offering full fibre speeds in millions of homes – though the very highest speeds aren’t always available everywhere.
- CityFibre is a rapidly growing alternative network with a footprint of over 4.5 million premises and aims to reach 8 million by 2025. If your home is in a CityFibre-enabled area, you may be able to access Vodafone’s fastest symmetrical packages.
For customers, this means availability depends on which network serves your property:
- If you’re in an Openreach area, you’ll likely have access to a broad range of speeds from entry-level fibre up to gigabit-capable plans.
- If you’re in a CityFibre area, you could unlock Vodafone’s very fastest full fibre options with matching upload and download speeds.
Speeds start from around 35 Mbps for lighter use and go right up to ultra-fast 2.2 Gbps for those in the best-covered locations. The fastest tiers are still limited to certain parts of the UK, so before you get too excited check what is available with our postcode checker.
Speed is often the biggest consideration when choosing a broadband package. If you have multiple people using the internet at one time, then a higher speed and bandwidth will be essential. Equally, if it’s a small household using the internet for everyday usage, paying for business-grade bandwidth will be a waste.
You should decide what speed is right for you, based on your broadband habits at home. Here’s a handy guide to help show what bandwidth usage your different applications need.

Vodafone broadband packages
When you put your postcode in, the packages that come up will depend on your postcode. If you are still in an area that isn’t yet connected to Vodafone’s full fibre network, you’ll only see the slower first two options shown below. Vodafone full fibre review
What exactly is full fibre?
Full fibre offers the fastest available broadband – it’s possible to see speeds exceeding 1,000Mbps (1Gps).
Around 85% of homes in the UK can now access this ultrafast broadband via fibre-optic technology also known as ‘Fibre To The Premises’ (FTTP).
Full fibre removes the need to rely on copper phone lines and instead connects fibre cables straight to your home. This means there’s no slowdown on the data between the street cabinet and your property and the speed and strength are much more powerful than any previous broadband technology as a result.
This technology will future-proof homes and businesses across the UK because, once it’s installed, properties won’t need to install new cables for their broadband for decades.
Don’t have access to full fibre yet? Hopefully you will soon. The government target is to have gigabit-capable broadband available to 99% of the country by 2030.
