Onestream broadband review | Is Onestream a good choice?

Is Onestream broadband a good choice?

Our overall rating: 42 out of 50

Onestream offers more package choices than most of the other newer, smaller providers. There are seven in all, ranging from a couple of fibre options to five full fibre options with speeds up to 900Mbps.

A less favourable difference to Onestream, is that it has an extra add-on charge for router hire. This is an unusual practice as most swallow up the costs and include them in their monthly prices. But expect to add anything from £2.95 to £5.95 a month onto your cost. That being said, their overall costs are pretty good value, it's just a bit annoying that this part isn't included upfront.

The positives

  • Speeds of up to 900Mbps
  • Great value and choice
  • Good availability

The negatives

  • Extra costs, including router charge and set-up fee
  • No TV options
  • No gift rewards

In our full review we take a look at the pros and cons of each area in more detail: speed, full fibre review, cost, setup and customer service.

How fast is Onestream broadband?

From an entry-level 62Mbps to ultrafast 900Mbps, there are a wide range of speeds available across Onestream’s product range. But remember, where you live will play a factor. We’ll list everything below, but you’ll also need to check your postcode to see what is currently available to your household with Onestream.

What speed do I need?

Speed is often the biggest consideration when choosing a broadband package. If you have multiple people using the internet at one time, then a higher speed and bandwidth will be essential. Equally, if it’s a small household using the internet for everyday usage, paying for business-grade bandwidth will probably end up being a waste.

You should decide what speed is right for you, based on your broadband habits at home. Here’s a handy guide to help show what bandwidth usage your different applications need.

Onestream broadband speeds

When you put your postcode in, the packages that come up will depend on your postcode. If you are still in an area that isn’t yet connected to Onestream’s full fibre network, you’ll only see the first two options shown below.

Onestream Fibre 40

This partial fibre option is the first of two options for homes not yet reached by full fibre. Its average download speeds of 38Mbps should be fine for browsing and streaming in small households with 3-5 devices.

Onestream Fibre 80

The second – and better – option for those who just have access to partial fibre. This only costs about £2 more and you’ll get faster speeds and better streaming with this package that has an average 67Mbps download speed.

Supreme Full Fibre 80

Their starter package has average download speeds of 62Mbps and no download limits. An offering great for browsing and streaming in households with 5-10 simultaneous devices.

Supreme Full Fibre 115

A fibre optic plan that offers a 100 Mbps download speed with no download limits. Ideal for those uploading large content, streaming and online gaming.

Supreme Full Fibre 220

This speedy full fibre package offers an average download speed of 200Mbps. This package can easily handle ten+ devices all requiring an internet connection at the same time. Gamers will be kept happy with its 26Mbps upload speed.

Supreme Full Fibre 550

One of Onestream’s ultrafast products with typical download rates of 500Mbps. Incredibly fast connection, great for large households, multiple devices and downloading and streaming movies and videogames in UHD (ultra high definition).

Hyperstream Full Fibre 1000

Onestream’s premium package. This full fibre package offers users an impressive average download speed of 900Mbps which will easily cover all high-use working and gaming internet usage in large, busy households.

Onestream full fibre review

What exactly is full fibre?

Full fibre offers the fastest available broadband – it’s possible to see speeds exceeding 1,000Mbps (1Gps).

Around 85% of homes in the UK can now access this ultrafast broadband via fibre-optic technology also known as ‘Fibre To The Premises’ (FTTP).

Full fibre removes the need to rely on copper phone lines and instead connects fibre cables straight to your home. This means there’s no slowdown on the data between the street cabinet and your property and the speed and strength are much more powerful than any previous broadband technology as a result.

This technology will future-proof homes and businesses across the UK because, once it’s installed, properties won’t need to install new cables for their broadband for decades.

Don’t have access to full fibre yet? Hopefully you will soon. The government target is to have gigabit-capable broadband available to 99% of the country by 2030.

Does Onestream broadband have reliable connection?

Onestream uses the well-established and reliable Openreach network for all its packages. Openreach is the physical network (the wires under the street and the boxes on the street) and the biggest telecommunications network in the UK.

Because it’s with Openreach this means you have a 98% chance of being in reach of at least a partial fibre connection.

Our Onestream broadband rating for connectivity: 9

How much does Onestream broadband cost?

Starting from just £19 a month for partial fibre speeds and going up to £33 for its fastest 900Mbps package, Onestream does offer good value.

But there are extra costs to consider, too. There’s a one-off cost of £4.95 which we presume is an activation fee. And there’s also a router hire fee that will cost you from £2.95-£4.95. You can avoid this by using your own router if you choose.

How long are Onestream contracts?

Onestream’s packages come as a standard 12 or 24 month contract. You’ll pay slightly less for the 24 month option.

Does Onestream have any bundle options?

Onestream doesn’t have TV packages you can bundle with its broadband, it just focuses on fibre broadband.

There is an option to add a phone line as an add-on service. This phone line is not a traditional landline, instead it is delivered via your broadband line in the form of VoIP (voice over IP).

This currently costs a one-off fee of £14.95 if you want to port your current home phone number. And then there are four different options of phone package add-ons that range from £6.50 - £12.50.

This broadband provider doesn’t currently offer any reward incentives with its deals.

Does Onestream put up its broadband prices every year?

Yes, unfortunately like many other providers, Onestream will increase its prices mid-contract. Currently price plans are showing that they will increase by £2.75 on 1 April 2026, then by another £2.75 on 1 April 2027.

You should factor the above in when signing up as you’ll need to agree to these annual price rise as part of the terms and conditions.

How easy is it to get Onestream set up?

If you’re a new customer, Onestream aim to get you up and running within two weeks.

Onestream will handle the switching process, so you won’t even have to contact your current broadband provider to tell them you’re leaving.

Will you need an engineer visit? Maybe, it depends on what connection your home currently has. For example, if you need a new full fibre installation, an engineer visit might be necessary. But Onestream will be able to tell you whether this is necessary during your ordering process and book this in.

If this isn’t needed, your service will likely be self-installed. You’ll receive a router in the post and this will need to be connected on the activation date.

Onestream Wi-Fi routers

As already mentioned, Wi-Fi routers are not included in your monthly pricing. Onestream actually encourage you to use whatever existing router you have if this is compatible.

There are three different router choices. Which one you add will depend on whatever speed your package requires.

Standard Router - £2.95 Per month Superstream Router - £4.95 Per month Superstream+ Router - £5.95 Per month
