Helping 5G work better at home

Mobile broadband allows users to access the internet at home or on the go, without needing a wired connection. And now with the rollout of 5G, you can do all of that with ultra-fast speeds too, but it’s not always easy to get a strong signal indoors. Thick walls, insulation, and poor line-of-sight to a 5G mast can all impact performance.

That’s where Three’s new Outdoor Hub comes in. By using an external antenna mounted outside your home, the hub captures a stronger 5G signal and brings it indoors via a Wi-Fi 6 router – delivering faster, more consistent speeds, even in homes where indoor coverage is weak or unreliable.

How it works

  • Choose from four flexible outdoor self-installation options
  • The Outdoor Hub hooks onto the strongest 5G signals available in your area
  • Then it connects to the indoors eero 6 Wi-Fi router (this comes as part of the package)

Four ways to set up

Choose how you want to self-install your hub, there are four different options depending on your property and level of DIY skills. The cables get fed through inside a closed window but won’t affect the seals or cables.

  1. Window mounted This is probably the simplest method – just attach the outdoor unit inside your window using suction mounts. This is ideal if you get a decent signal near a window and want to avoid any drilling.
  2. Pole mounted For peak performance, secure the hub to a bracket designed to fit around a drain pipe or pole outside. You then feed the cable inside through a closed window.
  3. Wall mounted You’ll need a drill for this one. Attach the hub to the outside of your house with a mounted wall bracket and then feed the cable inside through a closed window.
  4. Indoor temporary stand If you’re not allowed to make external modifications (e.g. in a rental property), the outdoor unit can be placed in a loft or inside near a window. Although, having the hub inside your home won’t get you the best signal strength possible.

How can you get the Outdoor Hub?

Currently there seems to only be one way to get hold of Three’s Outdoor Hub and that’s with their £21 per month, 150Mbps, Unlimited data, 24 month plan. This includes a 30-day money back guarantee which is plenty of time to work out whether you’re getting a good enough signal for what you need.
