Vodafone suffers major UK outage: thousands left without broadband and mobile service

Thousands of Vodafone customers across the UK were left without internet or mobile service on Monday afternoon (13 October 25) after a major network outage hit the provider’s broadband and mobile services.

Reports began flooding in just after 3pm, with outage tracking site Downdetector recording more than 135,000 complaints within minutes. The disruption affected both home broadband and mobile connections, with some customers also unable to access the Vodafone app or website.

The problem appeared to be nationwide, with hotspots in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff and Edinburgh. Users said they were unable to get online, make or receive calls, or use mobile data – with many describing a “total blackout” across their devices.

In a statement, a Vodafone spokesperson said:

“We are aware of a major issue on our network currently affecting broadband, 4G and 5G services. We appreciate our customers’ patience while we work to resolve this as soon as possible.”

Downdetector data showed that around two-thirds of reports were related to home broadband failures, while a quarter were linked to mobile data problems and around 8% involved loss of phone signal.

Vodafone engineers are currently investigating the cause, but early indications suggest the outage is affecting both fixed-line and mobile customers across multiple regions.

Customers are advised to avoid restarting routers repeatedly and to check Vodafone’s official status page or social channels for updates. Many users reported seeing their broadband and mobile services gradually returning by early evening.

For now, Vodafone customers are still waiting for an explanation – and reassurance that this kind of large-scale outage won’t happen again soon.
