Vodafone outage hits thousands of UK broadband and mobile users – now resolved

Vodafone has confirmed that a major outage affecting thousands of UK customers on Monday (13 October 25) has now been fully resolved.

The disruption left many broadband and mobile users unable to get online, make calls, or access customer support for several hours. According to outage tracker Downdetector, more than 130,000 reports were submitted during the height of the issue at around 4pm.

Vodafone said the incident was caused by a “non-malicious software issue” linked to one of its vendor partners and that the problem has since been fixed.

“The network has fully recovered and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The outage hit both home broadband and mobile data users across major UK cities including London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow and Manchester. Even Vodafone’s own website and network-status pages were briefly inaccessible, leaving customers unable to check updates.

Businesses and customers frustrated

Some business owners reported losing productivity and missing deadlines during the downtime.

“For companies relying on Vodafone’s connectivity for day-to-day operations, this will have caused widespread disruption,” said Melanie Pizzey, CEO of the Global Payroll Alliance.

Experts also noted the incident highlights how critical digital resilience is for UK infrastructure. Daniel Card from the Chartered Institute for IT said telecom providers need strong teams “capable of diagnosing and responding rapidly to network failures” to maintain public trust.

Who was affected?

The outage primarily affected Vodafone’s broadband, 4G and 5G services. However, other networks that rely on Vodafone’s infrastructure – including VOXI, Lebara, and Talkmobile – also experienced problems.

Cloudflare Radar, which monitors internet traffic worldwide, reported Vodafone’s UK network traffic “dropped to zero” during the peak of the disruption.

What to do if your broadband goes down

If you were affected by the Vodafone outage, you may be entitled to automatic compensation under Ofcom’s broadband rules – typically £9.76 per day for total loss of service (after two working days). Customers can also check Vodafone’s network status page for updates.
