Virgin Media customers get free router upgrade to boost Wi-Fi speeds

Thousands of Virgin Media broadband customers will receive a free upgrade to the company’s next-generation WiFi Hub 5, offering faster speeds, wider coverage and future-ready performance.

Virgin Media O2 has announced the start of a nationwide rollout that will see existing customers with older Hub 3 and Hub 4 routers upgraded to the WiFi Hub 5 at no extra cost.

The upgrade, which begins this autumn, aims to boost Wi-Fi reliability and speed in households across the UK, with thousands expected to benefit before the end of 2025. A wider rollout is planned for 2026.

The Hub 5 supports WiFi 6 technology and includes seven antennas to improve coverage and stability around the home – helping to reduce lag and buffering for streaming, gaming and video calls.

Gareth Lister, Director of Connectivity at Virgin Media O2, said:

“Providing our customers with the very best broadband experience sits at the heart of Virgin Media O2. As our technology evolves, we’re making it easier than ever for customers to enjoy faster and more reliable connectivity. This upgrade enhances coverage and future-proofs services for new innovations to come.”

Future-proof broadband

The free Hub 5 rollout underlines Virgin Media’s push to strengthen its broadband performance and reliability as more households rely on high-capacity connections for hybrid working, UHD streaming, and smart home devices.
