Fibrus broadband launches £50k sports fund
Fibrus has announced the return of its Play it Forward Fund, with £50,000 available this year to support grassroots sports clubs across Northern Ireland and Cumbria.
Northern Ireland broadband provider Fibrus has announced the return of its Play it Forward Fund, with £50,000 available this year to support grassroots sports clubs across Northern Ireland and Cumbria.
Now in its third year, the scheme offers up to £1,000 per club to help improve facilities, purchase essential equipment or provide new sports kits. The aim is not just to support local teams, but also to encourage children to stay active, prioritise their health and wellbeing, and spend less time on screens.
Since it first launched in 2023, the Play it Forward Fund has already contributed £100,000 to clubs in Northern Ireland and Cumbria. More than £60,000 has gone to 63 clubs in Northern Ireland alone, helping young people access new opportunities in sport.
One of last year’s recipients was Elite Taekwon-Do NI in Bangor, which used the funding to buy new equipment. This allowed existing members to progress and opened the door for more children to join and take up the sport.
Linda McMillan, Chief People Officer at Fibrus, said the company was proud to back local communities:
“We know how important these clubs are to the local community but equally how difficult funding can be for them to keep the lights on and grow. We’re incredibly proud to play a small part in bettering the community in which we operate and would encourage any clubs thinking of applying to do so.”
The 2025 Play it Forward Fund follows on from Fibrus’s wider Community Fund, which has already provided almost £60,000 to local groups this year.
Applications for this year’s Play it Forward Fund are now open and will close at 12 noon on Friday 3 October 2025.
While Fibrus is helping local communities through its sports fund, it’s also rolling out full fibre broadband across Northern Ireland and Cumbria. Enter your postcode to see if Fibrus – or other full fibre deals – are available where you live.
