Faster broadband on the way for Gloucestershire’s hardest-to-reach homes

Thousands of homes and businesses in Gloucestershire’s rural communities are set to get faster, more reliable internet as Gigaclear expands its full fibre broadband network to 18 new areas under the Government’s Project Gigabit programme.

Work is already underway, and the first properties are now connected – marking another big step forward in bringing ultrafast broadband to some of the county’s hardest-to-reach places.

Tackling slow speeds in rural Gloucestershire

Gigaclear’s new rollout will help address years of slow and unreliable connections in rural parts of Gloucestershire, where many residents have struggled to access digital services or work from home effectively.

Gloucestershire’s rural communities have too often struggled with slow and unreliable internet,” said Nathan Rundle, CEO of Gigaclear. “Our work under Project Gigabit allows us to tackle that head on – extending our network and delivering ultrafast broadband where it’s needed most.”

The company says the upgrade will bring gigabit-capable speeds to thousands of residents and businesses, improving everything from remote working and online learning to video streaming and digital healthcare access.

Government support for faster rural broadband

The rollout is part of the Government’s flagship Project Gigabit scheme, which aims to deliver gigabit-capable broadband to every corner of the UK by 2030 – particularly in areas that commercial providers have previously found difficult or uneconomical to serve.

Telecoms Minister Liz Lloyd welcomed the announcement, saying:

Families and businesses in Gloucestershire are saying farewell to outdated internet as we connect communities across the region to lightning-fast, reliable broadband. This will mean easier access to healthcare, home working and the digital economy.”

Building on a strong local presence

Gigaclear is already well established in Gloucestershire and has invested heavily in improving connectivity across the county. This latest phase builds on its long-term commitment to digital inclusion in rural areas and its ongoing partnerships with local councils and community groups.

As work continues, the company says it will share updates and success stories from across Gloucestershire as new connections go live.

What this means for local residents

If you live in Gloucestershire – especially in one of the newly connected rural areas – you could soon have access to full fibre broadband with speeds up to 900 Mbps or more.
