How a social tariff can help
Also known as ‘essential’ or ‘basic’ broadband, social tarrifs should be offered to anyone claiming Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits. They are delivered in the same way as other packages, but at lower prices.
Save money
There are many advantages to these. Firstly they are cheaper, current prices range from about £10 to £23 a month. TalkTalk even offer a six-months free option for certain jobseekers, eligibility is determined by Jobcentre staff for this.
Avoid mid-contract price rises
The price of these won’t ever suddenly go up inline with inflation, unlike most of the other regular tarrifs.
Free to leave
You won’t ever have to pay a penalty fee if you leave the social tariff before the end of your contract.
Good quality broadband
Most social tarrifs provide superfast broadband at speeds over 30Mbps, which should be plenty for most streaming, shopping and browsing.
How you qualify
If you, or someone in your household, is currently receiving any of the below, you should be eligible to be claim or switch to a social tariff. The person receiving the benefit needs to be the main person on the contract.
- Universal Credit
- Disability allowance
- Housing benefit
- Job Seekers Allowance
- Personal Independence Payment
What if I’m not eligible?
If you aren’t receiving government support and don’t qualify, there are still plenty of cheap broadband deals available. Some might even be cheaper than the social tarrifs. Have a look at cheap broadband deals on Fibre Compare and save money.
