Virgin Media fibre broadband boost to 9,000 homes on outskirts of Glasgow
As part of its Project Lightning network expansion within Scotland, Virgin Media has announced a network rollout across Stepps on the outskirts of Glasgow.
The ultrafast broadband rollout will see 350Mb fibre broadband delivered by the end of 2019 that will greatly benefit the local populous and businesses. The current average broadband speed in the town is just 21Mb.
Virgin Media’s Regional Director for Scotland, Julie Agnew, said: “Time-strapped families and small businesses across Stepps will soon be benefiting from our brilliant broadband service. Laying new fibre means we have to dig up roads and pavements but we will do our best to minimise any disruption to the community. Giving them greater speeds will enable them to do the things they need to do and love doing more quickly and more easily.”
Virgin Media’s gigabit-ready service will mean locals can sign up to Virgin TV and get access to all the best entertainment on Virgin’s V6 set-top box. Virgin TV comes with 260 TV channels, of which 50 are in High Definition, with sport from Sky Sports and BT Sport, an array of on demand box sets and movies.
Openreach is continuing with its Fibre First full fibre rollout programme bringing ultrafast broadband to 3 million premises by 2020, 10 million by 2025 and potentially the majority of UK properties by 2033 – read about the Fibre First rollout
