720 premises in Carnoustie able to connect to fibre broadband after £428m Digital Scotland help
With Carnoustie set to host The Open golf tournament this week there was some further good news as 720 houses and businesses saw the arrival of superfast fibre broadband as Openreach connected up the area to their fibre street cabinet. The installation is part of the Digital Scotland rollout to 890,000 premises across Scotland.
Pauline Lockhart, from Carnoustie Community Development Trust, said: “It was a pleasure to join the Digital Scotland team to celebrate the availability of fibre broadband in Carnoustie this week. It's good to see this project reaching more communities and giving an increasing number of homes and businesses, like ours, the chance to connect to high-speed broadband.”
Sara Budge, Programme Director for Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband, said: “It’s fantastic news that the programme has been able to benefit residents and businesses in and around Carnoustie.
“I am really glad to see that it has been able to benefit the local community, especially for large sporting events like the open.”
